Nominations for the 2014 Filipino Readers’ Choice Awards are now open!

An initiative of the Filipino Book Bloggers Group, the Filipino Readers’ Choice Awards debuted at the 2nd Filipino Reader Conference in 2012, and was established to develop awareness and appreciation of Philippine literature, recognize the reader’s role in creating the meaning and experience of a literary work, and give the readers a voice in the Philippine book industry.

"Project 17"

Lillian is merely looking for a babysitting job for the summer, but a desperate man named Paul Dolores hires her to look after his 28-year-old brother, Caleb. Caleb is suffering from schozoaffective disorder, and Paul, who is about to start on his first office job in a long while, wants to make sure his brother takes his medication on time. Lillian, at first hesitatn, accepts the job for the pay and the perks, but soon starts to wonder about the brothers she is working for. How come she can’t find any information online about the drugs Caleb is taking? And how come the national central database lists them as dead?

Where have you been all my life, Project 17? Well, all my life might be pushing it. Since I’ve started reading locally-produced novels, I mean.

Oh, right. Languishing in my bed, because I kept reading other stuff…

UPDATED Program for the 3rd Filipino ReaderCon

Monique's avatarFilipino ReaderCon

Hello everyone! Two days to go before the 3rd Filipino ReaderCon!

Due to the unforeseen supervening event that caused the postponement of the ReaderCon last November 9, consequently affecting the schedules of the original speakers as previously announced, we found it necessary to make a few adjustments in the program. The schedules for all the panels and discussions are the same, but kindly take note of the new line-up of speakers.

See you there! :)

newreadercondate

Hello everyone!

After keeping track of weather news and current conditions here in the Metro and in nearby areas, we’ve decided to postpone the Filipino ReaderCon 2013 to December 7. Venue will still be at the Rizal Library. Although we would’ve loved to keep things on track, we believe it’s in everyone’s best interests that we stay at home on Saturday, Nov. 9, and batten down our hatches, literally and figuratively.

On the bright side, December 7 will give us more time to prepare the things we have to prepare or polish the things we already have.

We hope to see you all on December 7, but in the meantime, we will be keeping all our marketing activities, online and off, active to build towards the new date. And we will stay in touch with each group regarding the new arrangements.

We apologize for this unfortunate turn of events, but…

Jumper Cable reviews Project 17!

First disclaimer: I’m still on hiatus.

Things that blow me away out of the water have a chance of sometimes getting me out of temporary hiatus.

Immediate disclaimer: this is NOT komiks, but generally it’s found where Trese, Zsazsa Zaturnnah, and other Philippine fiction is lumped together in the bookstore.

Lillian just wants money for rent and Candy Stripe, so despite misgivings she agrees to be the babysitter for Caleb Dolores, who is 28 years old but with schizoaffective disorder. The money is good and the brother Paul is not a bad sort, so it’s all well and good. But in a Philippines (Bulacan and NCR) in the near future, where Sentrys are robots, and Big Pharma controls more things than they really should, Lillian and her ragtag barkada stumbles into a dark secret hidden by the brothers, which opens more and more, dangerous, life-hazardous secrets.

Eliza’s forte is giving…
