mibf ’14 + visprint book signing at precious pages

I’m happy to be back at the Manila International Book Fair this year!

It coincided with SM Mall of Asia’s three-day sale, so we decided to head there early — really early — and have breakfast before joining the crowd.

J had to head elsewhere first, so I walked to SMX from the restaurant. Good thing I chanced upon table-mate Ferdinand Pisigan Jarin (Anim na Sabado ng Beyblade, Visprint, 2013). We walked to the venue together.

Happy for the nameplate, but I still got asked where the registration table was. Haha!

I was happy to meet the readers. One of them, Mira, brought us some sweets!

Mira took this lovely photo of me and J at the Visprint table.

Tricia and her friend came armed with an Instax camera, which was very cool, and made me very jealous.

Ivy took a nice photo of me.

We stayed at the table until half-past 11.

Look at the crowd.

upcoming stories

My story “Fortitude” will be included in the upcoming anthology Science Fiction: Filipino Fiction for Young Adultsedited by Dean Francis Alfar and Kenneth Yu.

Trivia: this is the first story I’ve ever written on a tablet. Sci-fi! (It was pretty difficult, though — I missed the feel of a keyboard. It was like I was sending a very long, hateful text to an enemy.)

Another story of mine, the short short “Stories from the City”, will appear in the second installment of Fast Food Fictiona collection of stories each with a maximum word count of 500 words, and edited by Mookie Katigbak-Lacuesta and Noelle de Jesus.

My thanks to the editors.

Guest Contributions

Eliza Victoria stops by the station to contribute a short story review. She is a Filipino author who authored the following books: Dwellers (2014), Project 17 (2013), Unseen Moon (2013), and A Bottle of Storm Clouds (2012). You may also have read her fiction and poetry in various publications, some of which are Daily Science Fiction, Stone Telling, Room Magazine, Story Quarterly, The Pedestal Magazine, High Chair, and the Philippine Speculative Fiction anthologies.

This review is also published in her blog. The station is happy to receive a contribution from a multi-awarded author. Thank you, Eliza.

The bullet is already in the brain; it won’t be outrun forever, or charmed to a halt. In the end it will do its work and leave the troubled skull behind, dragging its comet’s tail of memory and hope and talent and love into the marble hall of commerce. That can’t be helped.

The volume contains both short stories and excerpts from the upcoming novels of our speakers. You can pre-order by sending us an e-mail at info@moarbooks.net.
